The Dominican Republic is more than just beautiful beaches! If you are planning a destination wedding in the Dominican Republic, here are five off-the-beaten-path activities that are sure to please your entire wedding guest list:
Scape Park
Scape Park is Cap Cana’s natural water park built around jungle cenotes, giving travelers a major adrenaline rush the moment they arrive. The whole wedding will want to head here for overwater ziplining, the waterfall pool, an underground swimming cave, swimming holes, and so much more. In addition, animal lovers will enjoy the park’s wildlife interactions –where you’ll see everything from monkeys and parrots to horses and other exotic animals.
La Flor Dominicana
Passionate about cigars? Then, you’ll want to check this out! Known for its quality cigars, the Dominican Republic has been making a name for itself in the cigar industry for decades. La Flor Dominicana gives visitors a peek into cigar production, hand-rolling, and all. Sounds like a great activity for the groom and his groomsmen! Be sure to head here to see how the pros do it –and try out some of the best cigars in the world, while you’re at it.
Altos de Chavon
For a true taste of culture and art, be sure to scope out Altos de Chavon –an Italian-style village with unique architecture and cobblestone streets. Explore a Roman amphitheater with traditional live music, an archeological museum, and quaint cafés and boutique shops. This gorgeous heritage site is a wedding venue too. The scenic views here are worth the trip in itself!
Saona Island
If you thought paradise stopped at your resort’s beach, think again. Saona Island is just a day trip from Punta Cana –and well worth the boat ride! I recommend booking a Catamaran tour for your entire wedding group, as you’ll make some lovely pitstops to the most breathtaking natural pools along the way. Once you reach the island, you’ll “ooh” and “ahh” over the pristine beach, turquoise water, and local fare.
Dolphin Island
At Dolphin Island, you’ll have the chance to –you guessed it –swim with dolphins! Just a short boat ride from Punta Cana, the popular spot also gives families fun experiences like shark snorkeling, jet boating, and of course, plenty of beach time. Sounds like a bucket list “must” if you ask me!
