Traveling during hurricane season doesn’t mean your vacation will be ruined. Here’s what you actually need to know about traveling during the off-season:

The Common Misconception About Hurricane Season

Hurricane season typically falls between June and November. That doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll experience one first-hand though. Think of it like any other season – winter falls between December and March (or May if you’re in MN) but that doesn’t mean you’ll get caught in a blizzard. While you may feel inclined to avoid a tropical destination during this timeframe, you might be missing out on a fantastic vacation experience! Let’s break down the pros and cons of traveling during hurricane season to clarify things a bit more:

Traveling During Hurricane Season: Pros

Less Expensive – Since this is considered the off-season for traveling, you’ll easily find some of the best travel prices of the year.

Fewer Crowds – Fewer people at your hotel means more room for you! It also means more lounge chairs, faster service, complimentary upgrades, and getting into your favorite restaurants at the last minute!

Comfortable Temperatures – Temperatures in the U.S. start dropping in the fall, but the Caribbean and Mexico still offer plenty of warmth and sunshine.

Traveling During Hurricane Season: Cons

Delayed Flights – On the downside, you might experience delayed or canceled flights during hurricane season –even if your destination isn’t in the path of the storm. This is caused by flight cancelations or re-routes that have been impacted by the weather in other destinations.

Rainier Than Usual – In tropical areas, it’s perfectly normal for it to rain briefly in the morning and then warm up just in time for an afternoon swim. You could experience a bit more rain this time of year, but it certainly won’t ruin your vacation plans!
