Puerto Vallarta’s beautiful beaches, exotic jungles, and all-inclusive resorts set the scene for a perfect vacation. Nestled between the golden Pacific coastline and the South Sierra Madre mountain range, Puerto Vallarta has something for everyone. Here are a few of my favorite activities and must do’s that are sure to pop this Pacific getaway to the top of your list.

SHOPPING

Better bring an extra suitcase! Puerto Vallarta’s famous boardwalk, The Malecon, is dotted with bars, restaurants, and plenty of shopping opportunities. It’s also a hot arts scene with musicians, sand sculptures, and street performers!  You’ll find yourself coming back to this pedestrian paradise time and time again. Prices will be higher when cruise ships are in port, so be sure to save any big spending until after they’ve departed.

FALL IN LOVE

If you’re looking for a place to drink, dance, eat and take in all the sites of Puerto Vallarta, then you need to check the Old Town, colloquially known as “Zona Romantica” (The Romantic Zone).

It’s full of authentic restaurants, charming buildings, and quaint streets. If you’re headed with your significant other, then this is a great place to fall in love all over again.

DRINK TEQUILA

Puerto Vallarta is in the Mexican state of Jalisco. While home to plenty of Mexican history, everyone knows about their best invention, tequila. If you’re a tequila aficionado, there are tours available to take you through the whole process of making tequila, from the fields of agave to the distillery, to the tasting room (everyone’s favorite). Salud!

EMBRACE YOUR WILD SIDE

The biodiversity of the surrounding ocean environment and the jungles of the South Sierra Madres make for perfect excursions that bring you closer to nature. Los Arcos Marine Park is the ideal spot for scuba and marine lovers. Get up close and personal with tropical fish, while diving in the shadows of massive granite arches that seemingly explode from the ocean floor.

If you’re looking for more thrills, there’s canopy ziplining to get your blood pumping and the Jorullo bridge, the longest hanging bridge on Earth! While not for the faint of heart, it’s sure to be an experience that hangs in your memory.

RELAX

Need I say more? Relaxing is part of what makes vacation, vacation! There’s so much to do in Puerto Vallarta, that at the end of the day it’s important to kick back, unwind and decompress. You’ll have no problem with the abundance of beaches and tequila, so make sure that you don’t book too much to do, or else you’ll risk missing the most important thing of all!
