Curious what airlines are doing for travelers amid the COVID-19 outbreak? Check out the details below:

Increased Sanitation

In order to protect the safety and health of all travelers, air travel has increased cleaning and sanitation standards significantly. For example, many airports have installed more hand sanitizer stations, plexiglass barriers, and are cleaning much more frequently. In addition, airports are now initiating touchless check-in and boarding, as well as disinfection tunnels, and more.

Aircrafts will also be prepped and cleaned thoroughly, including electrostatic spraying before every flight, wiping down tray tables, seatback screens, etc. Most airlines are implementing a state-of-the-art air filtration system to ensure clean air is circulating at all times as well.

Capacity Restrictions

In order to adhere to the social distancing guidelines, airports will start by limiting building admittance to passengers only. Many airports will also tape arrows where foot traffic can flow in order to prevent overcrowding in public areas. You might also notice larger airports scheduling slots for going through security, so crowding is at a minimum. Many airlines are also reducing flight capacities to about 60%.

Temperature Checks

Several airports are implementing disinfection tunnels and thermal scanners to check temperatures of flyers prior to flying. This way, those deemed “fit to fly” will be allowed to enter, ensuring the safety of other passengers. Additional health screenings may also apply, depending on the airport you’re traveling through.

Touchless Security

When going through security, TSA plans to have passengers scan their own boarding passes, separate their carry-on food items, and remove prohibited items themselves. The goal is to have this rolled out by mid-June, as it will limit contact and cross-contamination between passengers and TSA agents.

Face Mask Requirements

Face mask will be required at airports and most airlines for the protection of all travelers and staff. If you are interested in learning about your airline’s requirements more specifically, they will have all of this info listed on their websites.
