Sometimes, a journey across the world can be exhausting. Check out some ideas I have for making those long flights a little more enjoyable :

Early Check-In

Whether you like the aisle seat to stretch your legs, or the window for privacy and a view, it’s always a good idea to book early so you can reserve your preferred seating area. Most airlines allow you to do this 24-hours ahead, too!

Dress Down

If you’re headed out on the next flight to Italy, you’ll want to dress in your most comfy clothes. Consider wearing layers in case the aircraft becomes too hot or too cold. You also might want to wear sneakers or comfortable flats, should you have to run across the airport to catch a connecting flight –eek!

Buy a Travel Pillow

Sleeping on the plane is highly suggested to pass the time. It could also help you overcome the jetlag, so you feel refreshed by the time you get to your destination. You can find all sorts of travel pillows online, or even at the airport in case you forget one!

Pack Snacks

Let’s be honest: airplane food isn’t known to be the greatest. Be sure to pack some of your favorite snacks like fruit, granola bars, nuts, or crackers. Plus, it’s always nice to have something to snack on in case your transportation is delayed and you’re in a pinch!

Bring a Travel Charger

In this technology-dependent world we live in, not having your phone or iPad to surf the web during your flight could be pretty miserable. Be sure to come prepared with a travel charger, so you can stay connected and keep your sanity.

Bring Your Headphones

The headphones most airline provide (or don’t!) are uncomfortable, unsanitary, and don’t block out the crying baby in the background. Bring your headphones so you can enjoy your movie and music in peace.

Get Stretching

We know mobility on a long flight is usually limited. Even so, make sure you get up to stretch your legs, wiggle your toes, and go to the restroom. Sitting in the same seat for hours on end can lead to stiff, achy joints, as well as possible blood clots. Compression socks can also help with your blood flow!

Stay Hydrated

With all the dry recycled air you’ll be dealing with, remember to drink plenty of fluids to keep yourself hydrated. Jet lag is usually on the worse side if you don’t drink enough water.

Beware of Germs

A final word of advice is to pack a small travel-sized hand sanitizer with you, so you don’t wind up sick at your final destination. Aircrafts are swarming with germs because of the recycled air –so try not to touch your face!

I hope these tips help make your long flight more comfortable and enjoyable. Keep in mind, a little extra planning ahead of time can make for a big payoff in the long run. For more information, get in touch with me at kate@katestravel.com today!
