We just returned home from our river cruise and can’t wait to share some highlights with you! Here are 6 reasons this was our dream vacation:

1. The Convenience

Did you realize how convenient a river cruise actually is? From the moment we stepped off our flight, everything –absolutely everything was taken care of for us. We were especially impressed with the ease of transportation –from our transfer driver waiting for us at the airport with our names on a sign, breakfast boxes prepped and waiting for us at the hotel lobby before heading home, or being escorted to the front of the TSA/security line at the airport –it was incredibly convenient. Tours and excursions were also managed by the staff effortlessly, making last-minute sign-ups or changes possible. We were even able to see a large part of Europe without having to pack and unpack multiple times. Couldn’t have made it any easier or stress-free!

2. The Inclusiveness

Another important detail –the inclusion! It was a great feeling to go on vacation without having to worry about hidden costs or fees, tipping, etc. In fact, our entire vacation was paid for ahead of time, making it super easy for us knowing all the food, wine, beer, and tours were included. There was even a happy hour right before every dinner, which offered passengers specialty drinks for an hour at no cost!

3. The Exceptional Dining and Service

From the transfer drivers and wait staff to the cruise director and tour guides – everyone was friendly and went above and beyond to make sure each passenger was taken care of. We especially enjoyed the dining options, which were always authentic, locally-sourced, and paired with delicious wines from the region. Let’s just say, the cuisine on an AmaWaterways River Cruise is unlike any dining experience you’ve ever had!

4. The Incredible Views

Sailing along the river on a warm sunny day, and gazing out at views of lush greenery, castles, and vineyards is a hard scene to beat!  Each day, we saw something new –some areas more industrial, some agricultural. Along the countryside, we would spot gorgeous cathedrals, vineyards, churches and quaint villages. Really a very picturesque experience!

 5. The Villages and Ports

With our love for history, we couldn’t help but enjoy the tiny villages that surrounded us. Each day, we would explore around the old half-timbered houses and cathedrals, and imagine those who had passed through there centuries before us. It was indescribable to see structures that have somehow withstood hundreds of years, wars and political change –yet still seem timeless. Some of our favorite moments were in Rudesheim and Miltenberg, Germany –where we’d stroll into town and catch locals playing music at open-air restaurants or bars. We even got a chance to meet a street artist and purchase a lovely watercolor painting. Such authenticity!

6. The Tours and Excursions

Most of our days were filled with guided tours, led by very knowledgeable English-speaking guides. The great thing about the tours were the multiple fitness levels you could choose from. Whether it be active, regular, gentle –even a bike tour! If you wanted to pick an active tour, then you were likely to see the most because of the quick pace. The regular tour accommodated those looking for a casual walk with multiple stopping points, and the gentle group was offered transportation from point to point. We also loved being able to go off on our own for several hours after the tour to make the most of our experience. After all, there’s so much to be seen!
